How random matching connects you with new people

Under the hood, Fling uses peer-to-peer WebRTC, the same real-time technology that powers video calls across the modern web. Once you're matched, the audio and video travel directly between you and the other person's browser wherever possible. A small signaling server introduces the two of you and helps your browsers find each other, but it isn't sitting in the middle of your conversation as a recorder.

That last point matters, so we'll be blunt about it: Fling does not record your calls. There's no archive of your video, no saved transcript of what you said, and no replay button for anyone, including us. When you and your partner disconnect, the live stream is simply gone. The only things that persist are the safety records described below, and those exist specifically to protect people from abuse.

Matching is genuinely random by default. You're not fed a curated lineup or nudged toward recommended users — the next person is just the next person who happens to be looking for a chat at the same time as you. That randomness is the entire point.

If a conversation goes wrong, you have a way to act. A report control lets you flag a partner — and because Fling keeps a short, on-device history of your recent matches with snapshots, you can report someone even after they've skipped you or you've moved on. Reports go to a moderation system that's reviewed, and confirmed abuse leads to bans that persist; a banned user doesn't simply reconnect by refreshing the page.

Fling also runs automated, on-device checks that look for explicit video and abusive language and quietly flag sessions for review. These run in your own browser rather than on a server watching your feed, which keeps the no-recording promise intact while still catching the worst behavior. Random doesn't have to mean completely unguided. Fling offers an optional country filter so you can shape who you meet without losing the spontaneity. At the gate you can choose to match with people from a particular country, or with anyone in the world.

The filter is best-effort. Because a country preference narrows the pool of available people, a more specific filter can mean a longer wait between matches, and the most reliable way to meet someone quickly is to leave it open. During a chat, the header shows your partner's country, so you have a little context about who you're talking to.

The filter is there if you want it and ignorable if you don't. Leave it on anyone and Fling behaves like classic random chat; set a country when you're in the mood for something more specific.

Text and video — what to expect on Fling

Fling is a video-first experience. The heart of it is seeing and hearing a real person in real time, and a short text chat lives alongside the video for sharing a name, a link, or a quick line when speaking out loud is awkward. The controls are intentionally minimal: Next to move on, Stop to bow out.

You'll need a working camera and microphone and a browser that supports modern video calling, which today means most up-to-date browsers on desktop and mobile. Your own video appears as a small mirrored preview so you can see what your partner sees.
